It is with great pride that I congratulate Felix Mathew for the successful defence of his PhD thesis at McGill University last week! As Felix was travelling, the defence was virtual.

I am just back from the inspiring UN General Assembly Digital Health Symposium, held in New York over the last two days. I presented in the session on open-source digital health tools where I highlighted the link between Opal and OpenEMR.

Yesterday (2025-9-9), I had the privilege of joining a tour of the Bruce Power nuclear power plant in Ontario on the sidelines of an International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) workshop in Hamilton.

🚀 Using Opal and OpenEMR, we are making patient data more portable and accessible! Today, in collaboration with Stephen Nielson, Director of Engineering at the OpenEMR Foundation, we demoed our first iteration of the International Patient Summary/Canadian Patient Summary in Opal.

I’m delighted to share this new research paper by PhD student Felix Mathew in my research group. It describes RadiSeq, a first-of-its kind simulation framework to model the whole-genome DNA sequencing of cells that are exposed to ionizing radiation.

I’m very proud to share the Github page of the Opal patient-in-the-loop data platform. All of the code behind Opal is now available, along with comprehensive documentation and architectural diagrams. This code was developed over the last 10 years by me and my lab at McGill.
