Following the Laurie Hendren Symposium on Patient-in-the-loop data organized by the Kildea lab at the RI-MUHC last Wednesday, La Presse published an interview with John Kildea regarding patients' access to their lab results in Quebec.

The Kildea lab is organizing an exciting symposium on patient-in-the-loop data. A fantastic line up of keynote presentations from world-leading experts on access by patients to their data and panel discussions with local experts, including patient and caregiver partners, is planned. Gabriel’s poster described his MSc research project. It was entitled “Using Radiomics as a Proxy Measurement for Biomarker Expression in an Orthotopic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Mouse Model”.

Trey presented his project entitled “Quantifying Pain in Radiotherapy Images” to a lay audience in 3 minutes!

The Kildea lab was well represented at the COMP 2024 meeting in Regina, Saskatchewan.

We had one talk in the prestigious Young Investigators Symposium (Felix Mathew), one talk in the COMP Highlights session (Sachin Dev), two talks in the Analytics and Big Data session (Kayla O’Sullivan-Steben and Odette Rios Ibacache), one poster (Gabriel Giampa), one presentation in the Science Spoken Sucinctly Competition (Trey Chernoff), and one talk in the Young Professionals Workshop (John Kildea).

Congratulations to Felix Mathew for an excellent presentation in the Young Investigators Competition at COMP 2024 in Regina. Felix’s presentation was entitled “RadiSeq: A whole-genome DNA sequencing simulation pipeline to investigate radiation-induced carcinogenesis”.

Congratulations to Kayla OSullivan-Steben for an excellent presentation at COMP 2024 in Regina. Kayla’s presentation was entitled “Anonymization by Defacing of Head and Neck Cancer Imaging Datasets for Radiotherapy”.

Congratulations to Odette Rios Ibacache for an excellent presentation at COMP 2024 in Regina. Odette’s presentation was entitled “Development of geometrical parameters for characterizing anatomical alterations in head and neck cancer patients and evaluating radiotherapy replanning”.

Congratulations to Sachin Dev for an excellent presentation in the COMP Highlights session at COMP 2024 in Regina. Sachin’s presentation was entitled “Enhanced thermal neutron transportation modeling in TOPAS and cross validation with Geant4”.

Congratulations to Kildea lab student Odette Rios Ibacache for winning an AAPM/RSNA Doctoral award for her upcoming PhD studies in Medical Physics at McGill University! The American Association of Physicists in Medicine awards just two fellowships to first-year PhD students each year. It’s a fantastic achievement for Odette to be awarded one of them! Odette will begin her PhD project in the Kildea lab in September 2024.
