Samuel is a MITACS Globalink Research Intern 2023 under the supervision of Dr. John Kildea at McGill University Health Centre, and an undergraduate student studying Biomedical Engineering at Universidad CES in Colombia. He possesses a deep passion for healthcare research and innovation, driven by a strong determination to create meaningful impact by solving real-world problems leveraging technology. He is working on a project that is exploring a completely new way to manage healthcare data by putting them fully under the control of patients using the Solid web-decentralization framework of Tim Berners Lee (solidproject.org). In this way, fragmented and scattered healthcare data that are currently in digital silos will be stored more efficiently, making the healthcare system truly interoperable and solving many of today’s issues that have arisen from sub-optimal data management; he will also explore opportunities to integrate this technology architecture into the Opal patient portal.
