We give an update on the status of the prototype telescope of the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS), a next-generation atmospheric imaging Cerenkov array currently under construction in southern Arizona. VERITAS will feature significant improvements over previous instruments, including better energy resolution, lower energy threshold, improved angular resolution, and increased flux sensitivity.
