Retirement of Andréa Maria Laizner

Interacting with Andrea Laizner was one of the highlights of the time I spent working on the Opal project at the MUHC.
Andréa recognized early on the tremendous value Opal would bring to patients and she volunteered to help. She worked tirelessly during Covid to register users at the Cedars Cancer Centre. Access to Opal provided many vulnerable cancer patients with peace of mind during a difficult period and the numerous appreciate comments we received were testament to it. Andréa also helped ground our work in academic rigour with qualitative research into how Opal was impacting its users. Together, we co-supervised more than 10 undergraduate research projects into Opal and one MSc project.
The Opal project was but a blip in Andréa’s impressive career at the MUHC but her dedication to patient-centered care made a difference to the Opal Health Informatics Group l #OHIG and the patients who used Opal.
Wishing you a well deserved relaxing retirement Andréa!
