Erick is a natural language processing and data mining scientist currently working at the CRIM (Centre de recherche informatique de Montréal ). Erick has experience with medical texts, newspaper texts, learning analytics, and applying NLP/Machine Learning techniques in sociolinguistic data to detect grammatical changes in language.
Erick holds a Ph.D. in engineering from the Ecole de Technologie Supérieure in Montreal, Canada. The main topic was the coverage of information in students’ texts and newspaper texts. During his stage as a postdoctoral fellow at the medical physics unit at McGill university, Erick worked on classifying textual narratives describing patient safety incidents in radiation oncology. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Institut für Romanistik at Potsdam University, Erick worked on transcriptions of spoken language to detect the grammatical change in European French. He also taught topics in linguistics of roman languages and computational linguistics applied to social research.
